Göteborg Concert Hall

Gothenburg Concert Hall
Göteborgs Konserthus (The Gothenburg Concert Hall) is a world famous hall from 1935 with a pioneering architectural construction. The acoustics of the main hall are still considered to be among the best in the world. With its pure uncluttered functionalism, the beautiful building materials of Canadian maple, yellow bricks and Swedish marble, the Concert Hall stands as a admirable monument of art, design and culture.

An architectural competition for a concert hall in Göteborg was held in the 1930s, and the winner was Nils Einar Eriksson. His main source of inspiration was the typical functionalistic style, and to a certain extent the curved shapes of the Salle Pleyel, Paris. The interior is decorated by Swedish artists and the furniture is of Swedish design.

Already during the early acoustic tests it was apparent that the hall was unique, the instruments sounding warm, rich and clear. All recordings of Göteborgs Symfoniker for Deutsche Gramophon and BIS have been made in the hall. The hall was modernized and improved in the 1990’s.

Göteborgs Konserthus is the home of Göteborgs Symfoniker, The National Orchestra of Sweden. In addition to their regular concerts, the concert hall is also used for other events such as popular concert and conferences.
