Hamburg Philharmonic Hall / Laeiszhalle - Musikhalle Hamburg
Music forms the heart of the Elbe Philharmonic Hall. Together with the traditional Laeiszhalle, which will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2008, the Elbe Philharmonic Hall will lay the foundations for musical live in Hamburg played at the highest international level but also reflecting impulses from the regional world of music. Just as the building of the Elbe Philharmonic Hall is being supported by the enthusiasm of citizens who have gladly donated to it, so Hamburg as a music metropolis must draw its energy from its population and their strong cultural focus. The Elbe Philharmonic Hall will be a concert hall for everyone. Selected familiarization activities ensure from the very outset that the Elbe Philharmonic Hall and Hamburg’s citizens will grow more closely together.
General Artistic Director Christoph Lieben-Seutter is in charge of deciding the concert programs for the Elbe Philharmonic Hall and the Laeiszhalle. Born in Vienna, he has since 1996 been General Secretary of the Vienna Concert Hall and thus has very clear ideas about how music can play first fiddle in that city. Collaboration with renowned international artists, the inclusion of the three major Hamburg orchestras, encounters between classical and Pop music, between jazz and chamber music, between world and popular music will make certain the new hall takes up new currents and yet remains rooted in tradition: Those are the building blocks on which to create an excitingly vibrant new music scene in Hamburg.
